Cyber-attack at Shangri-La's Asia hotels triggers compliance check by Hong Kong privacy watchdog

( October 3, 2022, 03:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Shangri-La Group has come under scrutiny from Hong Kong's data privacy commission after a cyber-attack hit eight of its Asian hotels. In addition to its three hotels in Hong Kong, Shangri-La's hotels in Singapore, Chiang Mai, Taipei, and Tokyo fell prey to the attack. The personal data of more than 290,000 Hong Kong customers might have been affected, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data said in a statement on Saturday. Given the nature of the incident, and the number of data subjects involved, the commission has initiated a compliance check. On Sept. 29, the hotel chain notified the watchdog of the attack, more than two months after it became aware of the incident.
