Most online subscriptions deploy ‘dark patterns,’ consumer protection group finds

( July 9, 2024, 13:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network found over 75 percent of subscription services across 26 nations use dark patterns in their advertising. Dark patterns are practices found in online user interfaces that steer, deceive, coerce, or manipulate consumers into making choices that benefit the website or app companies. The Digital Services Act prohibits platform providers from engaging in these actions. ICPEN and the Global Protection and Enforcement Network partnered to conduct the security sweep.
