Content-sharing platforms not necessarily liable for illegal uploads, top EU judges say

( June 22, 2021, 08:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Video-sharing platform operators such as YouTube and file-hosting and file-sharing platforms such as Cyando aren't liable for copyright-protected content illegally posted by users just because they make their platforms available, the EU Court of Justice has ruled. For liability, they must contribute to allowing access to such content in breach of copyright, including by failing to delete or block access to content in good time, failing to put in place appropriate technological measures to counter copyright infringements and providing tools on platforms specifically intended for the illegal sharing of such content.
