Comment: US Federal Trade Commission warns AI abuses will be regulatory focus

In recently issued policy guidance on potential AI abuses, the agency cited what are arguably two of its most aggressive enforcement actions to warn companies of the ramifications of AI systems that fail to protect privacy or that enable bias. The AI policy guidance emphasized that the FTC is watching the AI space, and is willing to apply its more difficult-to-litigate prohibitions against “unfair” business practices to combat AI abuses.The US and EU are trying to foster the development of artificial intelligence technology that incorporates democratic values, with European Commission Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager and US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo holding a press session next week on the risk of bias in AI systems....
