Steelmakers urge Senate to pass sunset clause for Section 232 tariffs

( November 19, 2019, 19:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Comprehensive legislation to reform the president’s national security tariff authority under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 must include a sunset clause establishing an expiration to end tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum imports, the Coalition of American Metal Manufacturers and Users said in a letter to the Senate Finance Committee. “After 18 months of the Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs, it is clear that these tariffs are contributing to a weakening of the U.S. economy, particularly in the manufacturing sector,” said the coalition, which is concerned the committee won't include the provision in an upcoming proposal. Please see attached letter....
