Portuguese-Swiss financial manager moves to dismiss charges in US bribery case after they were revived by appeals court

( April 4, 2023, 14:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Paolo Jorge da Costa Casqueiro Murta, a Swiss-Portuguese financial manager, filed a battery of motions to dismiss corruption charges that were revived in recent months after an appeals court overturned a judge's decision to dismiss them. Murta allegedly helped American businesses pay bribes to officials at Peotroleos de Venezuela SA in exchange for priority repayment and for other benefits. The motions seek dismissal on several grounds, including that the charges are time-barred under the statute of limitations and that his right to a speedy trial was violated.
