Australia's competition regulator clarifies agency’s role in building product regulation

( July 22, 2015, 05:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: In an address to Master Builders Australia, the deputy chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Michael Schaper, said that while the ACCC is engaging with building regulators to encourage safety-based procurement practices in the building product sector, it is not the agency responsible for building product regulation. His comments come as public interest in the origin of the products and safety of building materials is increasing. “The ACCC doesn’t normally intervene in safety issues where there are specialist regulators responsible for those goods… Concerns about non-compliant products in these areas of specialist regulation should be raised with the specialist regulator for action,” Schaper said.The regulator's full statement follows:...
