Cost of heating homes creates health problem for Europe

( October 19, 2016, 13:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Energy poverty is leading to health problems, due to the inability to heat homes and permanent exposure to high levels of damp and mold, a new report from a group of civil society organizations in southeast Europe says. One of the report’s authors, Stefan Bouzarovski of the University of Manchester, said energy poverty is “tied to the quality of the housing stock, and as such is fundamentally about improving the energy efficiency of buildings, heating systems and appliances.” The report, signed by activist groups including WWF and Bankwatch Network, says improvements to houses are urgently needed, “possibly with EU funds, but also involving the private sector.”Full statament follows:...
