Consumers should carry less burden for protecting privacy, US FTC's Levine says

( September 27, 2022, 16:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Samuel Levine, director of the US Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said that in today’s digital economy, it's unreasonable to put the onus on consumers to protect themselves by having to carefully evaluate different products and services. Levine said privacy notices are an inadequate approach to privacy protection for consumers, arguing that even if they were perfectly understandable, they may simply inform consumers that a company collects anything and everything it can, and can do with it whatever it wants.  A "privacy regime that relies on notice alone places too much burden on consumers, who don’t have the time or expertise to review lengthy privacy notices for every app, service, or device, or to digest that complex information — especially when companies routinely change these notices at will,” Levine said.See document below. ...
