Rumble must reply to Google questions about agreements alleged to have harmed competition, US court says

( June 29, 2024, 00:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Rumble, which has sued Google over its alleged illegal promotion of YouTube in its search results, must respond to the tech giant's questions about agreements the plaintiff says have harmed competition, a US court said. In an order regarding Google's interrogatories, US Magistrate Judge Lisa Cisneros said "Rumble must specify the specific agreements and provisions of the agreements sufficient for Google to understand which types of practices Rumble believes has harmed competition, and how the provisions have harmed the competitive process." Cisneros said that to "determine whether any particular act of a monopolist is exclusionary, rather than merely a form of vigorous competition, courts must evaluate whether each type of alleged exclusionary practice has the requisite anticompetitive effect." She noted that Rumble alleges in part that Google’s agreements with original equipment manufacturers and carriers harm Rumble by “forc[ing] Android-based smartphone manufacturers to include, among others, YouTube as a preinstalled app on their phones (and to give it a preferred location on the phone’s default opening page, and make it undeletable by the user).”See court's order. ...
