US DOJ expects 'positive' developments from IEEE to ensure policies align with antitrust law

( December 17, 2020, 15:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Standard-setting organization IEEE is now "well-positioned" to ensure that their policies and advocacy are aligned with modern antitrust law and policy, the US Department of Justice's Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Michael Murray said. Referring to a supplemental letter the DOJ's antitrust division sent to IEEE in September asking it to consider updating patent policy, Murray said there was a "clear need" for the agency to act and that the circumstances necessitating the letter were "uncommon." "This supplement will remain an outlier," Murray said in prepared remarks. "We look forward to seeing positive developments from them in this space," he added. Statement follows below:...
