Judge Paul Brereton appointed to head of Australia's new anti-graft watchdog

( March 29, 2023, 02:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A judge who has served as the assistant inspector-general of the Australian Defence Force has been appointed to head Australia’s new federal anti-graft agency, the National Anti-Corruption Commission. In a statement published today, Australian Attorney General Mark Dreyfus announced that Paul Brereton would become NACC’s first commissioner, with Nicole Rose, the current head of Australia’s financial-crime agency, to serve as deputy commissioner. Both appointments are for terms of five years. Jaala Hinchcliffe, who is currently the head of the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity, has been appointed as interim deputy commissioner for 12 months, as her agency is subsumed into the new anti-corruption body.
