Suspend ​​UK surveillance law and ask EU judges to vet it, Liberty urges London court

By Ben Lucas ( February 27, 2018, 18:19 GMT | Insight) -- The UK government is acting "unlawfully" in continuing to apply national surveillance legislation, the High Court in London heard today. Lawyers for British campaign group Liberty asked judges to order the government to stop using a key part of the Investigatory Powers Act that allows it to force telecom companies to retain communications data such as e-mails, phone calls, texts and location data so that state security officials can later access it.
