Brazilian business officials sentenced to prison for tax evasion

( September 15, 2022, 17:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Two business officials that work in the fuel market were found guilty and sentenced to prison for evading $77.1 million Brazilian reais ($14.7 million) in taxes from 2005 to 2008. The investigation followed a complaint from the Federal Prosecution Service in São Paulo state, or MPF-SP, and was jointly coordinated with the Brazilian Federal Police and the Federal Revenue Service. MPF-SP said the defendants used front companies to hide their assets and extinguish tax payments related to the sale of ethanol. The 9th Federal Court of Campinas issued a prison sentence of five years and 10 months to one of the businessmen and four years and 10 months to the other, as well as fines based on multiples of the Brazilian minimum wage.Federal Prosecution Service press release follows in Portuguese:...
