Meta Platforms’ Instagram processed children’s data unlawfully, EDPB says

( September 15, 2022, 08:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms has been fined 405 million euros ($404 million) for Instagram's use of children's data, which was found to violate the EU's General Data Protection Regulation. The penalty is the second-highest to date under the GDPR. The European Data Protection Board said that there were several objections raised by other privacy watchdogs about the draft Irish DPC decision. The EDPB found that Meta had processed children’s personal data unlawfully without a legal basis, and told the Irish regulator to amend its draft decision.Press release is below and decision is attached....
