Simson outlines infrastructure rules revamp in EU Parliament’s energy committee

( December 15, 2020, 16:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU climate goals for 2030 and 2050 should become the “guiding principles” of the bloc’s future energy infrastructure framework, the bloc’s energy chief Kadri Simson said today while presenting a proposal for revamped EU rules on cross-border projects. Speaking in the European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy committee, Simson said that the proposed updated TEN-E regulation by the European Commission would focus on promoting the uptake of renewable and low-carbon gases, electricity grids — including offshore — as well as on strengthened scrutiny of the projects’ environmental impact. The revamp also foresees a strengthened role for the commission and Acer, the agency for the cooperation of energy regulators, in the design of infrastructure needs scenarios underpinning the EU’s choice of backed projects.Full speech follows....
