Vacuum cleaner makers shouldn't use supplementary energy labels, legal opinion says

( February 22, 2018, 09:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Vacuum cleaner suppliers and dealers shouldn't be allowed to use supplementary energy labels, a legal opinion prepared by Advocate General Henrik Saugmandsgaard Øe for the EU's top court suggested today. This could undermine the purpose of the EU standard energy label, which is aimed at informing consumers of energy-efficiency levels and cleaning performances, he said. Today's opinion is part of a dispute between UK appliances maker Dyson — whose vacuum cleaners are all bagless — and Bosch unit BSH, some of whose vacuum cleaners have dust bags. Dyson considers that the standard labelling is misleading, because vacuum cleaners are tested with an empty bag when they are most efficient. Bagless cleaners, by contrast, don't lose power as they fill up, Dyson says.Statement follows. The court opinion is attached. ...
