Ecolab weighs appeal over UK CMA's decision to block Holchem purchase

( November 1, 2019, 09:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US cleaning-chemical supplier Ecolab is considering an appeal against the UK Competition and Markets Authority's decision to block its merger with British rival Holchem. In a quarterly filing with the US financial regulator, Ecolab said it is "considering options and next steps, including an appeal of the decision." Ecolab also said it "disagrees" with the CMA's decision, and that it believes the UK market "will remain highly competitive" following the acquisition. Last month, the CMA ordered Ecolab to unwind the deal and sell Holchem to a new owner to remove competition concerns. The CMA said the combination of two of the largest suppliers of cleaning chemicals to food and drink makers in the UK would leave only three players of any significant size competing in the UK market.Statement follows.
