Athletics committee, manufacturers get dismissal of US antitrust claims over football equipment affirmed

( September 9, 2022, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment and helmet manufacturers got the dismissal of Mayfield Athletics’ US antitrust claims affirmed by an appeals court. The US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit determined that defendants have shown that their desire to protect their reputations and sell safe products is a legitimate business interest. “That this high standard creates barriers to entry for Mayfield illustrates only that Mayfield has elected to sell products in a market that places high regard on the safety and warranty of its products, not that the market is rife with tortious interference.” Mayfield had accused NOCSAE and the manufacturers of conspiring to exclude aftermarket or add-on products from the market for football safety equipment and accessories.See document below. ...
