Thirteen Spanish media companies get GDPR fines over data minimization

( March 22, 2023, 11:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Thirteen media companies in Spain have been fined 50,000 euros each by the national data protection authority, for violating Article 5.1(c) of the EU's GDPR. Each of the companies had published online the audio court testimony of an alleged rape victim, contrary to the principle of data minimization, the regulator said. Four of the companies paid a reduced amount for agreeing to make a voluntary payment: Radio Television Madrid and Corporación de Radio y Televisión Española paid 30,000 euros each; while Titania Compañía Editorial and Editorial Prensa Canaria paid 40,000 euros each. The other nine companies, fined the full amount, are: Unidad Editorial Informacion General, Sociedad Española de Radiodifusion, La Vanguardia Ediciones, El Diario de Prensa Digital, Imponer a Display Connectors, Diario ABC, Conecta5 Telecinco, Atresmedia Corporación de Medios de Comunicación, and 20 Minutos Editora.The decisions are attached in Spanish. ...
