UK companies should pay data-protection fee to regulator, government says

( February 21, 2018, 10:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK government has proposed a new funding structure for the country's data-protection regulator that would see companies pay the Information Commissioner's Office a fee based on the relative risk to the data they process. The move would ensure the ICO is adequately funded when the EU's new privacy rules come into force on May 25, the regulator said. Large organizations likely to hold and handle the largest volumes of data will be required to pay 2,900 pounds under the proposed system, the ICO said.Full press release follows....
