EU's digital Covid-19 certificate gateway goes live with seven countries

( June 1, 2021, 11:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU's Digital Certificate for Covid-19 is taking shape, the European Commission has said, announcing that the technical backbone of the EU system is going live today, a month ahead of the July 1 deadline. It will allow certificates to be verified “in a secure and privacy-friendly way,” the commission said. The gateway will thus ensure the checking of the security features of all certificates, making it possible to verify their authenticity, with no personal data exchanged or retained during this process. Seven countries — Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece and Poland — have already connected and started to issue their first EU certificates. Other member states can also start using the system on a voluntary basis, provided they pass technical tests and are ready to issue and verify certificates, the commission said.Statement follows. ...
