Hinajidori chicken processor, farm co-op handed antitrust warnings by Japanese regulator

( July 4, 2019, 02:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- Honke Hinajidori, a Japanese chicken processing company specializing in Hinajidori brand chickens, and JA Akitakita, a farm co-op overseeing the northern part of Akita Prefecture, were on Wednesday issued with warnings by the Japan Fair Trade Commission amid suspicions they had violated the country's Antimonopoly Act by engaging in unfair trade practices. The JFTC said that the two entities had stipulated in their contracts with JA Akitakita’s member chicken farmers between April 20015 and January 2019 that they would ship only to Honke Hinajidori. The contract also allegedly directed chicken farmers to adjust the number of Hinajidori chicks they raised according to the company’s sales schedule.The JFTC’s statement, in Japanese, is attached....
