Six decorating contractors, three individuals targeted by Hong Kong competition agency in cartel case

( July 3, 2019, 07:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hong Kong's competition agency has commenced proceedings against six decorating contractors and three individuals for alleged cartel conduct, the regulator announced today. The Hong Kong Competition Commission alleges that the companies and individuals "allocated customers and coordinated pricing" for the provision of renovation services at a public housing estate in the Kwun Tong district, in Kowloon, in 2017. In doing so, the commission said the accused had contravened the so-called first-conduct rule of the city's Competition Ordinance. Brent Snyder, the regulator's CEO, said that a recent judgement from the Competition Tribunal in a similar case "sent a clear message that such conduct is a blatant violation of the ordinance, and it is particularly egregious when the people directly targeted are some of Hong Kong’s most vulnerable consumers."Statements in Chinese and English from the ​Hong Kong Competition Commission are attached. ...
