Maersk targeted in Brazil probe of corruption in deals with Petrobras
( December 11, 2020, 19:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The subsidiaries of Danish logistics company Maersk in Brasil are being administratively targeted by Brazilian federal prosecutors over alleged corruption in ship chartering contracts with Brazil’s state-owned oil giant Petrobras. According to a statement, the targets are Maersk Brasil, Maersk Supply Service Apoio Marítimo, A.P. Moller Maersk A/S and LR2 Management — which is a joint-venture with Danish company TORM. Individuals linked to Maersk and Petrobras involved in the wrongdoing are also targeted in the administrative lawsuit. Prosecutors requested the return of undue proceeds transferred to Petrobras’ former director Paulo Roberto Costa (7.2 million reais, or $1.4 million), and the reimbursement by the parties involved of 161.4 million reais ($31.9 million) to Brazil, the payment for collective damages of an additional 161.4 million reais, plus the payment of a civil fine and the application of other sanctions provided for in the Administrative Improbity Law, such as the suspension of political rights and a prohibition on contracting with the Government for ten years.See the full statement below (in Portuguese):...
