Biden seeks $39 million boost for US FTC in budget request

( May 28, 2021, 17:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Biden administration is asking Congress to authorize an annual US Federal Trade Commission budget of $389.8 million for the 2022 federal fiscal year starting Oct. 1. That amount is roughly $39 million more than the FTC can spend in the current fiscal year. The request includes $208.6 million for consumer protection efforts and $181.2 million for activities to promote marketplace competition. The request assumes that pre-merger fees would account for $136 million of the agency's spending, an amount that's $14 million less than the agency anticipates it will collect in Hart-Scott-Rodino fees during this year.Statement in full follows.
