Facial-recognition trial conducted in French schools breaches data protection rules, CNIL says

( October 29, 2019, 13:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: After a year-long test of facial-recognition technology at the entrance of two high schools, France's Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés has issued an opinion at the request of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, which claimed that the technology was in breach of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Security and ease of movement at the schools — in Marseille and Nice — could be achieved via means far less intrusive in terms of privacy and individual freedom, the CNIL said.Statement follows in French....
