South Korean top official meets US House lawmakers to convey concerns over Inflation Reduction Act

( September 6, 2022, 02:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s top minister overseeing trade and energy issues met with a delegation of US lawmakers to convey concerns over the impact of the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act on South Korean automakers. Minister for Trade, Industry and Energy Lee Chang-yang said in the Monday meeting with the nine US House lawmakers that the IRA discriminates against South Korean-made electric cars in receiving tax credits for clean vehicles. The minister noted that the electric vehicle-related provisions in the law could also violate the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement and WTO trade arrangements and called the lawmakers to take an active interest in the concerns. Meanwhile, Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun is visiting Washington D.C. on a three-day trip until Wednesday to meet US government officials and lawmakers to discuss issues with the IRA.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
