EU lawmakers must find 'political solution' to stop AI models from abusing personal data, Italian official says

While privacy watchdogs could rule that AI companies cannot rely on legitimate interest as a legal basis for such practices, this "academic" approach risks bringing the industry to a standstill. Instead, Guido Scorza said the only option may be the "imperfect solution" of collaborating with the companies directly. European lawmakers need to find a “high-level political solution” to address the “unacceptable” problem of AI systems’ using citizens’ personal data to train their models without their knowledge, an official at the Italian Data Protection Authority said today....
