Antitrust order against MRF dismissed by Indian court for 'lack of transparency' in proceedings

By Freny Patel ( June 11, 2024, 07:18 GMT | Insight) -- In a significant setback to the Indian antitrust watchdog, a high court in South India dismissed an order against tire manufacturer MRF's alleged involvement in a cartel case because of the lack of prior notice before initiating the investigation. The Madras High Court criticized the Competition Commission of India for its “opaqueness" in conducting the proceedings and the "considerable delay" in making available the order to MRF. India's largest tire manufacturer challenged the CCI for changing its status from a "third party" to an entity under investigation in the tire cartel case without being notified.
