Japan's smartphone payment company PayPay reports data breach

( December 7, 2020, 09:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s smartphone payment giant PayPay said today that illicit access to its server may have caused a breach involving more than 20 million pieces of data from shops. The affected data includes the names, addresses and contact information of shops which use the PayPay code settlement system. The breach originated in Brazil on Nov. 28, due to the company’s failure to properly limit access rights. The company, which belongs to the SoftBank Group, shut down the illicit access by Dec. 3, and said it would take measures to prevent a recurrence.A statement in Japanese follows....
