J Hutchinson's boycott deal with construction union was illegal, Australian watchdog alleges

By James Panichi ( December 4, 2020, 02:25 GMT | Insight) -- Australian construction company J Hutchinson and the union it dealt with to end a worksite boycott have been targeted by antitrust enforcement action, with the country’s competition watchdog saying today that the agreement was designed to prevent or hinder the acquisition of goods and services. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission alleges in the Federal Court of Australia lawsuit that the agreement had ended Hutchinson’s work with a subcontractor to avoid conflict with the militant union.
