UK raises 2030 climate goal ahead of UN climate summit

( December 3, 2020, 22:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK companies are set to face a target calling for a 68 percent greenhouse gas emissions cut, compared to 1990 levels, according to plans unveiled by the government. The move comes before a “climate ambition summit” to be hosted by the country on Dec. 12 to mark the Paris climate agreement's fifth anniversary. Next November, the UK will also host in Glasgow international climate talks. “The UK’s new emissions target is among the highest in the world and reflects the urgency and scale of the challenge our planet faces.
