Shanghai issues draft rules to spur demonstrations of smart connected vehicles

( August 22, 2022, 09:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Shanghai's transport regulator has released a set of draft rules for public comment until Aug.31 that govern demonstration-operations of smart connected vehicles, including robotaxis, smart buses and smart heavy trucks in the city. To qualify for demonstration-operations, operators of robotaxis should accumulate no fewer than 200,000 kilometers (125,000 miles) of autonomous driving in road tests. Distances driven by individual robotaxis should be no fewer than 5,000 kilometers. Subjects participating in demonstration-operations should establish information-management platforms, collect necessary data, connect them with official data platforms, and draft risk-contingency plans to ensure data and operational security. Certain fees are allowed to be charged at this stage, paving the foundation for commercial operations in the next stage of development. The statement follows and the draft rules are attached: ...
