Spanish court annuls antitrust fines imposed on Trasmediterránea

( June 23, 2015, 14:59 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Spain’s highest court, the Tribunal Supremo, has annulled two decisions by the national competition authority to fine ferry operator Trasmediterránea. The company was fined a total of 48.2 million euros in 2011 and 2012, for entering into a cartel with other companies in the Balearic Islands and in the exclave of Ceuta. Today’s ruling follows a judgment handed down in February, which found fault with the regulator’s dawn raids carried out in May 2010 at Trasmediterránea’s premises in Madrid and Palma de Mallorca. The data obtained during the surprise visits have no value because they were obtained by breaching the right to privacy in the home, the court said.Full statement follows in the Spanish original:...
