Ryanair loses appeal at EU's top court over Spanish Covid-19 solvency aid

( June 6, 2024, 08:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Irish airline Ryanair has lost its legal challenge at the EU's highest court over approval for Spanish Covid-19 recapitalization measures amounting to 10 billion euros. The program was meant to benefit non-financial undertakings that suffered temporary difficulties as a result of the pandemic and deemed to be of systemic or strategic importance, among other conditions. In a judgment today, the EU Court of Justice rejected the appeal, upholding the European Commission's decision to clear the solvency support fund. Judges confirmed the lower court's assessment that the support plan was proportionate and that it didn't breach the principle of non-discrimination on grounds of nationality.The press release follows.
