Renewi's Belgian tax break not state aid, EU concludes

( March 3, 2023, 13:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A Belgian tax break for Walloon landfill operator Renewi does not constitute illegal state aid, the European Commission has concluded following an in-depth investigation. In 2015, the EU executive received a complaint that the reduced tax rate Renewi received was only for waste recovery operations, while its management of the Technical Landfill Center of Mont-Saint-Guibert in Belgium was rather waste disposal operations. The commission concluded that the qualification of the transaction and the reduced tax rate had been correctly applied by the Walloon authorities.Statement follows, in French....
