National Women's Soccer League asks US federal court to deny temporary restraining order on age-limit rules

( May 12, 2021, 18:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The National Women's Soccer League asked a US federal court to deny a motion by underage plaintiff Olivia Moultrie for a temporary restraining order in relation to the league's 18-year-old minimum age limit to play, calling it a "drastic remedy." Use of a TRO would be "improper" and is intended only to maintain the status quo until the court has sufficient time to consider injunctive relief, NWSL said in a filing in US District Court for the District of Oregon. The TRO request is "particularly inappropriate because the NWSL is engaged in collective bargaining negotiations with the recognized player’s union for nearly 250 NWSL players, the NWSL Players Association," the league said. The court should defer to that collective bargaining process and allow the negotiations to go forward unencumbered, it added. See document below....
