Germany to reduce VAT on gas to 7 percent, Scholz says

The measure aims to reduce the burden of a new levy to make consumers pay higher gas-procurement costs borne by importers. Previous exchanges between the German government and the European Commission clarified that VAT could not be removed from the surcharge, but that consumers could be refunded in other ways.Germany will lower the sales tax on gas to 7 percent, to soften the impact of adding a new levy on consumers that starts on Oct. 1....
