In promoting data-driven innovation, the lobby group said digital platform operators — both domestic and foreign — were essential to promoting Japan's digital economy, and called for a balanced approach to protecting privacy and promoting innovation. Regarding planned amendments to the privacy law, the lobby group opposed the privacy commission’s proposed requirement to notify companies’ data breaches, and called on the competition regulator to make conservative and precise applications of abuse of superior bargaining position clauses to digital platform operators’ handling of consumer data.A statement and a summary, both in Japanese, are attached....
