Carrefour faces fines exceeding EUR3 million for French data protection violations

( November 26, 2020, 08:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Carrefour France faces a fine of 2.25 million euros ($2.68 million), and Carrefour Banque one of 800,000 euros, for breaking EU data-protection rules in France, the national data protection authority said today. The CNIL found that the websites carrefour.fr and carrefour-banque.fr didn't provide easily understandable information about their loyalty programs. Additionally, the carrefour.fr site provided insufficient information regarding data transfers outside of the EU. The CNIL also said that neither website had sought consent for advertising cookies, and that Carrefour France hadn't respected the data-retention periods for 28 million customers who were no longer active in its loyalty program.
