AI ecosystem in Europe isn’t developing successfully, auditors warn

By Sara Brandstätter ( May 28, 2024, 22:03 GMT | Insight) -- The development of an artificial intelligence ecosystem in Europe is seen as unsuccessful, leading to a lack of investments in AI, the European Court of Auditors says in an extensive report published today. It also criticizes the coordination with EU member states and the unsystematic monitoring of investments in AI. Stronger governance and targeted investments are needed to achieve the EU’s ambitions, the ECA says. The European Commission says developing an AI ecosystem is a main political priority and refers to the recently adopted AI Act, which was not included in the auditors’ analysis.The development of an AI ecosystem in the EU is seen as unsuccessful, due to the failure of coordination of public and private investment with the EU member states, the European Court of Auditors said in a comprehensive report published today (see here)....
