MediSecure data breach the focus of preliminary privacy probe, Australian regulator says

( May 21, 2024, 05:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australian digital medical-prescription provider MediSecure has notified the country’s privacy watchdog of a data breach first announced earlier this week, in which medical details of patients and personal data of doctors was accessed by hackers. In a statement, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner said it had started a preliminary inquiry to ensure that the Melbourne-based MediSecure had responded to the breach in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches provisions contained in the 1988 Privacy Act. “The initial focus for the OAIC is ensuring that affected individuals are appropriately informed, so they may take steps to protect themselves from any further risk to their personal information,” the regulator said.The full statement from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner follows: ...
