Japanese electronics retailer Edion's antitrust fine cut by $9.4 million

( October 4, 2019, 10:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- Japanese electronics retailer Edion’s antitrust fine of 4 billion yen ($37.4 million) has been reduced to 3 billion yen, the Japan Fair Trade Commission announced in its final decision after a seven-year appeal process. Edion was appealing the JFTC’s 2012 order to pay 4 billion yen for abusing its superior bargaining position against 127 of its suppliers, requesting a complete withdrawal of the fine. The JFTC reduced the original fine by concluding that it didn’t hold a superior bargaining position against 35 of its 127 suppliers. The reduced fine still remains the highest penalty for abuse of superior bargaining power in Japan. Edion can file for an appeal of the JFTC’s ruling at the Tokyo High Court.The JFTC's statements, in Japanese, are attached....
