Covid quells EU top court's caseload challenge, but not for long, Vajda says

By Lewis Crofts ( November 17, 2020, 14:58 GMT | Insight) -- The EU courts may have to undergo reforms to reduce their "immense" workload, the UK's last ever judge at the Court of Justice has told MLex in an interview. Christopher Vajda said that the Covid-19 pandemic had eased the immediate pressure on judges, but more cases could eventually be filtered before reaching the EU's top court, including competition disputes. And the referral mechanism from national courts has scope for more interpretative rulings to reduce repeat litigation, he said. The EU courts have expanded their resources and expertise to rule on increasingly tricky competition cases, but the judiciary still faces challenges to stay on top of mounting caseloads, the UK’s last ever judge at the EU Court of Justice has said....
