US FTC's Wilkins lauds abandoned New York hospital merger

( February 17, 2023, 00:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: SUNY Upstate Medical University and Crouse Health System's decisions to terminate a merger following criticism of the transaction from the US Federal Trade Commission is "very good news for patients and healthcare workers in upstate New York," FTC Office of Policy Planning Director Elizabeth Wilkins said. The agency opposed the merging parties' application for a certificate of public advantage, which shields transactions from antitrust scrutiny and which have previously been linked to higher inpatient prices and declines in quality of care, Wilkins said.Full statement follows....
