Some FCPA convictions against ex-Congressman Jefferson vacated over McDonnell ruling

( October 4, 2017, 22:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Seven bribery-related convictions of former Congressman William Jefferson have been vacated by a federal judge citing last year's McDonnell decision by the Supreme Court defining "official acts."  However three others, including one for Foreign Corrupt Practices Act conspiracy and one for racketeering, should remain in force, US District Court Judge T.S. Ellis, III ruled. Jefferson was convicted in the Eastern District of Virginia in 2009 and sentenced on charges related to bribery and money laundering on deals in Africa that he promoted while a congressman. Jefferson has served the entire five-year sentence on the FCPA violation, but Ellis ordered resentencing because some of the sentences for the vacated counts ran concurrently with others for which the convictions remain. Ellis ordered that Jefferson be immediately released pending resentencing. Please see attached document....
