Taxation of greenhouse-gas emissions ECI registered by EU Commission

( May 13, 2024, 10:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A European Citizens' Initiative, or ECI, titled “Save the Planet by Shifting Taxation from Labour to Greenhouse Gas Emissions” was registered by the European Commission today. The ECI's organizers are calling on the EU executive to help strengthen the Fit for 55 Package and the EU carbon pricing system, by setting a faster phaseout of free allowances, and allowing an uncapped carbon price to reduce emissions. They also request the redistribution of carbon pricing revenues to low-income households. Following the opening of signature collection, the ECI must receive at least a million statements of support from at least seven EU member states within one year in order for the commission to respond.The press release follows:...
