Renewable energy set to see record growth despite Covid-19 crisis, IEA says

( November 10, 2020, 09:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Power produced from renewable energy sources is set to see record growth in terms of capacity this year and next despite the Covid-19 pandemic, which has battered the oil, gas and coal segments of the energy industry, the International Energy Agency said in a report today. “Renewable power is defying the difficulties caused by the pandemic, showing robust growth while other fuels struggle,” the Paris-based energy watchdog’s chief Fatih Birol said. Still, policymakers need to “take steps to support the strong momentum.” In particular, the report identifies biofuels used in the transport sector and industry as an area in need of policy support given the “demand shock” caused by the pandemic.Statement follows.
