South Korean competition regulator turns to other countries for answers to app-market challenges

( July 22, 2022, 09:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: In the wake of complaints against Apple and Google over their in-app payment procedures, the South Korean competition authority has resorted to overseas initiatives to solve the difficulties stemming from the tech giants. The Korea Fair Trade Commission began soliciting tenders for an analysis of the legislative and regulatory efforts undertaken by the US, the EU and other countries to tackle abuse of dominance by Apple and Google, the operators of the two biggest app stores. The regulator said there have been concerns that such power abuses are eroding transaction order across the app market ecosystem, and it plans examine other countries to find answers to both structural and behavioral challenges posed by the companies.The document soliciting tenders is attached....
